Day 36

Day 36
October 13, 2015

Day 36 turned out to be a wonderful day of cycling.  The temperature when we started in Greenville, Texas was 60 degrees.  We made great time in the morning with a slight tail wind and smooth asphalt.  The temperature heated up through the day but never got over 90 and there was a nice breeze.  The late morning route took us along a narrow country road that had broken asphalt but the scenery was great.  We met Marilyn for lunch in the town of Quitman then headed out for our afternoon ride.  We originally planned to stop for the night in Gilmer, Texas but decided to ride an extra 13 miles to the small town of Diana, Texas where we found a nice RV park for the night.  Total mileage today was 94 miles and both Dann and I felt good at the end of the day.

Now that I am heading due east it feels like I’m traveling quickly toward the final destination in Jacksonville.  I’m often asked if it feels like the trip has gone by quickly or not.  Marilyn and I both agree it feels like it has gone by quickly.  On the other hand, it seems like a life-time ago that we were traveling through the beautiful Northwest with my brother, Tom and friends Pete and Darcy.  So many miles have passed along under my tires. I have passed so many bungie cords, screws, glass, tools, funny signs and, yes, dead animal carcasses along the roadside.  I’m not sure how I will feel when the ride is complete but for now I continue to enjoy the journey knowing that this whole adventure is for a purpose so much greater.  I truly get excited when I ponder the lives impacted by clean water and the message of the Living Water of Jesus Christ.  A friend sent us this verse this morning that is so appropriate:

“Did not I weep for him whose day was hard? Was not my soul grieved for the needy?”  Job 30:25
