Day 13

Day 13
September 20, 2015

Today’s ride was one of the most spectacular and scenic days.  I left Jackson just as it was getting light heading north up the Jackson Hole valley watching the sun come up over the Wind River Range to light up the Grand Teton.  It was 39 degrees and did not warm up until after noon.

The ride up the valley was beautiful passing a bull moose and encountering the inevitable buffalo traffic jam.  Marilyn stopped the RV and climbed on the roof to capture the photo of me “stuck in Teton traffic”.  I stayed close to the cars not sure how much one of the bulls might like my red bike, red helmet and flashing red strobe light.  I made it through just fine but Marilyn began questioning how she was going to get off the roof of the camper and back inside now that she was surrounded by the herd.  The herd did mosey off so she was able to return to the safety of the RV.

As I left the valley at Moran junction and turned up toward Dubois the road begins to climb almost immediately to Togwotee Pass topping out at 9600 feet.  Marilyn met me at Hatchet Lodge for a late breakfast serving of pancakes and bacon to fuel me over the pass.  The climb over Togwotee was long and gradual but truly beautiful.  I made it to the summit in good time and began the nearly 30 mile descent to Dubois.  Got into Dubois by mid-afternoon and began preparing for tomorrows ride to Lander, Wyoming.
