For The Least of These

The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’    Mathew 25:40

In less than 60 days, the wheels of my bike will begin to roll as I pedal from Seattle, Washington to Jacksonville, Florida.  During the 50 day ride I will:

  • Consume 4,857 ounces of water

  • Pedal 795,600 times

  • Burn 138,000 calories

  • Cross 12 states

  • Travel 3400+ miles

  • Encounter the un-expected

  • Meet some incredible people

  • Share a message of hope

The seemingly endless checklist of tasks, equipment, check points, reservations, supplies, “what if” contingency plans and physical preparation is now ready for execution.  All of the planning, scheduling and preparation is now yielding to just plain excitement for the journey.

The “why” of all this is steadily on my mind in the midst of preparation. I picture a beautiful little girl holding a bottle of clean Jessie Water.  She now has hope of better health, a future to grow strong, and an opportunity to learn about the love of Jesus.  There are thousands more children just like her who need this same hope – it is for them, “the least of these,” that I ride.
